Rudy Rangel is entering his 21st year at The Colony High School and marks his 19th year as the Cougars' Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator. Coach Rangel has the school record in overall wins and playoff appearances. His 2014 team is the school's top team in history, making it to the State Regional Finals.
Coach Rudy Rangel is in his 31st year of coaching with previous stints at Bryan and Navasota High School. He has several players currently playing collegiate football including Bubbie Cummings (Hendrix College), Kylon Whitehurst (Trinity Valley), Shafiq Taylor (Howard Payne), Kaden McFarland (Austin College), Cam Pair (East Central), Dom Puentes (Evangel), Kyair Warner (Evangel), Myles Price (Indiana), Kyle Taylor (Arkansas State), Alex Elam (Kansas Wesleyan), and Edwin Lopez (Mary Hardin Baylor) Overall, in the 18 years that Coach Rangel has been at the helm, the Cougars have placed over 100 players into the college football ranks.
Coach Rangel also had a first-round draft pick last year who plays for the New England Patriots Christian Gonzales and an NFL practice squad player in Donnie Callis!
Coach Rangel graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas in 1992, where he played both football and baseball. He went on to Sam Houston State University where he earned his degree in Kinesiology and coached as a volunteer at Huntsville High School helping the football and baseball programs. He also earned his Masters degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University in 2012.
